The California String Quartet was formed in 2002 by members of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra as their artistic outlet and a way of possibility to express and explore the endless diversity and beauty of the more intimate chamber music repertoire. Their collaboration earned them the LA WEEKLY’s “Most outstanding chamber ensemble” award and the respect and admiration of audiences, critics and peers in Los Angeles and Southern California. The CSQ has appeared on TV and on L.A.’s Classical radio station “K-Mozart” numerous times, and has been a guest to some of the most prestigious chamber music series such as, LACMA Live, Chamber music at Greystone, Norton Simon Museum, The Music Guild, South Bay Chamber Music Society, Ventura Chamber Music Festival, Lagerstrom Chamber Music, CALTech Music Society, Restoration Series South Pasadena, Chamber Music at the Old Mill San Marino and many more.

The California String Quartet collaborated with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra in a series of concerts called “Acoustic Caffeine”, in partnership with Brookfield Property Pertners, who are the owners of many of the large Downtown L.A. buildings and all over the world. This concerts bring the music to the workplaces of thousands of people and CSQ was proud to be a part of such an amazing project. The group also collaborates with many contemporary composers and has premiered numerous of their works in concerts around Southern California . They premiered and recorded the acclaimed string quartet #1 by the talented Bulgarian born film composer Penka Kouneva and collaborated on a recording project with the Oscar nominated film composer John Powell, which brought to fruition the unexplored beauty of the string quartets by the Russian composer Sergey Taneyev. Their new CD which was released September 1st of this year includes the most brilliant #2 and #6 quartets and was entered for this year’s Grammy nominations.

The CSQ will be a featured quartet at the Hollywood Bowl production of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, produced by famed Hollywood composers agent Richard Kraft from Kraft-Engel Management. Recently the quartet went through a transformation with the edition of violinist Luanne Homzy, violist Zach Dellinger and cellist Ben Lash, who brought contemporary sound and new energy and dedication to the group. Together with the first violinist Katia Popov who is also the Concertmaster of the world famous Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the quartet takes their performances to a new level of musical mastery and brilliance. Holding degrees from such prestigious music academies as Paris Conservatory, UCLA, USC and Colburn, the musicians are also busy recording artists, soloists and orchestra players as well as dedicated teachers who share their knowledge, experience and love for music with their young students as well as inspire the audiences with their passion and artistry.
